6 Quick Self-Care Tips

Whether it be 5 minutes or an hour, slowing down and finding time for self-care is essential. Self-care is any act that improves your mental, emotional, or physical well-being and it looks different to everyone! Whether it’s getting a facial, going to a concert, hiking with a friend, or playing video games— what is important is that it helps you live well.

The team at Havenly Counseling Collective told us some of their self-care practices and they encourage you to try them out!

1. Get Your Nails Done

Bobbi (Elder Emo Therapy) says,

As a therapist, I recognize the significance of self-care, and one practice that brings me immense joy is treating myself to a monthly nail appointment. I find creative freedom in selecting designs that capture the essence of each season or holiday. For instance, this Halloween, I celebrated with candy corn-inspired nails. This self-care ritual not only allows me to feel more connected to my femininity but also serves as a delightful form of self-expression.

2. Take a Hot Girl Walk

Melinda (Inviterra Counseling) says,

Get outside and walk in nature. Studies show that being in nature for even 20 minutes can reduce our levels of cortisol (the stress hormone), as can moving your body. Yes, yes, it sounds cliche. But it's cliche for a reason (because it works).

Now go take that Hot Girl Walk.

3. Weekly Yoga

Joanne (OliveMe Counseling) says,

Doing yoga 2x/week as a bookend to my work week helps me reset my body, mind, and heart. Who knew that laying flat on the floor for even a few minutes would bring such a huge shift!!

4. Make a Resource List

Morgan (Morgan Hancock Therapy) says,

Make a list of all the areas that you are pouring your resources into (money, time, energy). Every hour, dollar, and effort should be adding value to your life or adding value to something/someone that you care about. If it doesn't- and it's possible to make a change- try to reallocate your resources to other things/people that will add value or potentially add value to your life. Reassess your list as often as you need to.

5. Get Outside

Lorren (Lorren Siu Counseling) says,

For me, self-care is best done outdoors. I love exploring new hiking trails, but if I don't have that much time available just going for a quick walk outside does wonders! Noticing the trees, grass, flowers, and other plants around me helps me feel grounded.

6. Center Yourself

Kristen (Kristen Hannah) says,

My favorite self-care tip is to spend sometime every morning getting centered and thinking though your day. Are you doing anything that you enjoy? Are you moving towards your goals? Even 5 minutes of intention can make a big difference!
